The Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (FCNM) has been recognized as the academic unit with the highest level of international collaboration in scientific publications at ESPOL.

This distinction was awarded during the Cuartiles Mayores Ceremony, held on October 30, an event that celebrates the most outstanding achievements in scientific and academic production across the ESPOL community.

FCNM Dean Erwin Delgado, Ph.D., stated that this recognition represents “the consolidation of FCNM’s academic vision, which understands science as a collective, diverse, and global endeavor, where knowledge is enriched through exchange and joint efforts with institutions around the world.” He also highlighted the dedication and hard work of the faculty’s researchers.

Evaluation Criteria

Two main indicators were considered in granting this award:

• The number of Scopus-indexed publications with international collaboration produced during 2024.
• The International Research Network (IRN) indicator, used by the QS Rankings, which measures the diversity of countries involved in research collaborations and considers only those countries with at least three joint publications over the past five years.

Each criterion accounted for 50% of the final evaluation score.
