Data analysis, information interpretation, and strategic decision-making are part of the daily routine of Aarón Josué Calderón Espinoza, a final-semester student of Statistics Engineering at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at ESPOL. He completed his internships and industry placements at Grupo Unicomer Ecuador, within the Business Financial Risk area.
During this experience, he participated in processes related to credit risk analysis, portfolio monitoring, and customer profile evaluation. He also contributed to the development of dashboards and executive reports that support decision-making in the financial and commercial areas.
One of the projects that defined his experience was the development of a classification model aimed at identifying customer profiles and rules associated with credit risk, applying knowledge acquired in courses such as Applied Statistical Models, Statistical Learning, and Data Engineering.
For Aarón, one of the most rewarding aspects was discovering how statistical analysis can create real impact within a company. “In the financial sector, small variations in risk or customer behavior can represent major changes for the company,” he said.
Likewise, he highlights that this stage not only strengthened his technical skills but also competencies such as communication, teamwork, and organization. “Thanks to God, it has been a very valuable experience where I have been able to grow both professionally and personally,” he shares.
The commitment and performance demonstrated during his internships and industry placements later opened the opportunity for him to join Grupo Unicomer Ecuador as a permanent team member, where he currently continues developing his professional career.
